Sam Noir is a Samurai detective on vacation.

Sounds pretty simple really.

The book starts out with what one assumes happened in the previous Sam Noir comics, Sam not able to get to a Jasmine in time to save her. He feels guilt and sorrow from her lost and a bit of shame. To help him face the loss he does what any detective does in this situation; goes on vacation.

However, Sam isn’t one to have long vacations. Something always breaks up his ‘me time’ with friends Mr Colada, Doctor Tia and Miss Tini. His time on the beach this time around didn’t last more than 12 hours thanks to a few unknown attackers.

With the unwanted help of the local police detective Edmund C. Grog, Sam starts looking for the who’s and why’s about these attackers. Along with the help of the detectives talking parrot Watson that only Mr Grog can understand.

The art on this comic is amazing, you very rarely get a full shot of Sam just a shadowed idea of what he looks like. It’s a very blurred style but the art just adds to the story, it is the writing that makes you want to keep reading the comic. However be prepared for a lot of clichéd lines and some very odd pirate speak.

In true detective story style you’re left with a cliff-hanger, just enough to keep you coming back for the next issue. And I think they weigh about 6,000 pounds.
