This is a pin-up book: Full of Zombie pictures.

You’ve already made your mind up, haven’t you?

Fear The Dead tells the story of a Zombie uprising from the point of view of a photojournalist stuck behind quarantine. The pin-ups are ostensibly his photographs, with a short paragraph of text accompanying each picture. Unfortunately, the pictures rarely if ever match up with the text. Not that they’re supposed to, but it does cause a little disorientation.

Fear the Dead

As something to pin the art on, the story is more than adequate. Nelson keeps his text fairly straightforward, letting the art create the mood – but even with the fairly minimal word count, he still manages to convey the full horror of the unfolding events.

There is a wide and varied range of art styles on display, from fairly minimalist line drawings through to fully painted art – standout examples include the morgue page by Frank Teran, a church full of the undead by Jerry Beck and Nick Tang Chee Eng, a classroom full of death by Tommy Castillo and what appears to be a final prayer by Erik Gist. Other artists include Dan Brereton, Eric Powell, and Kieron Dwyer.

In the end, it still comes down to the same point. It’s a pin-up book full of zombie pictures.

You know you want it.
