Pirates of the Caribbean: At World End

Directed By: Gore Verbinski< /br>
Written By: Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio
Starring: Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom

You may not be aware of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. A low level release that attempts to give an accurate protrayal of life as a pirate with low key performances and… If you went to see At World’s End expecting any of that then you would be highly disappointed. It’s part 3 of the Captain Jack show. Captain Jack Sparrow of course, not Harkness.

Following on from the cliffhanger at the end of the last film (and the Back to the Future break between films) Pirates III had to end the story and help various people decide if this was worth being a trilogy as opposed to one great film.

What this film shows that having built up the story to such levels that what really worked for the first movie is having a strong central concept - skeleton pirates - and playing off that. Too many elements demand to be used and that disrupts the narrative and the characters. Far better to let the characters shine, and with actors like Rush and Depp you really do want those characters to have the opportunity to shine and play off everyone else.
